Why Is Women Education An Issue - 1027 Words

Education is a luxury that some families cannot afford. Unlike females who live in developed countries, most females who live in poor nations don’t have access to a simple right like completing their education. Unfortunately, two-thirds of world’s illiterate adults are women! Since, some families would prefer to send their sons to school rather than their daughters. Why is women education an issue? There are many causes of illiteracy such as attitude towards learning, gender bias, immigration of educated individuals. etc. However, the two main causes of women’s illiteracy are their attitude towards life and of course poverty. Women are raised to aspire to marriage and not their education. They are told that marriage is the most important thing in life, they are told that their role in live is to assist and do the household work such as cleaning and cooking. In most of the poor nations, women are forced into early marriage which means they will have to deal with the responsibility of managing a household, family before even gaining the maturity to fully comprehend the meaning of marriage. As Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie said â€Å"We raise girls to see each other as competitors-not for jobs or for accomplishments, which I think can be a good thing, but for the attention of men.† The second main reason of women illiteracy is poverty.
